Description

Deep Diving

An exciting and useful SSI specialist course for your development as a diver. Deep beneath the water's surface, many things are different – the lighting conditions, the colours, the temperatures, but most importantly, your body behaves differently. It is crucial to prepare well for such a deep dive for your own safety.

Why Deep Diving?

Many interesting and thrilling dive sites are located at greater depths that cannot be dived without additional training.
Diving to depths of up to 40 metres can be fascinating but carries greater risks than diving in shallower waters.
Therefore, it is essential to know the potential risks and how to avoid them, so you don't miss out on fascinating diving experiences at deeper locations.

How Does the Course Work?

The course includes:

  • 5 theory units via home study (followed by a final test), with a repetition in a theory session on-site with the diving instructor - see the IMPORTANT information regarding the theoretical training below.
  • 3 dives in open water

Theoretical Training

During the theoretical training, the key aspects from the home study will be reviewed. You will learn, for example, what special equipment you need for a deep dive and how to properly plan a deep dive. Additionally, you will be informed about the potential hazards you may encounter while deep diving and what to consider during repetitive dives. A good preparation in advance is very important – please pay attention to the note below!

Practical Training

During the three deep dives in the lake, you will apply your knowledge in practice under the direct supervision of the instructor.

Where Does Everything Take Place?

The theory session usually takes place directly at the dive site, before the dive (theoretical self-study in advance expected).
The open water dives take place in a lake approximately 100 km away. Each course participant must organise their own travel.
You will receive your dive cylinder and lead at our diving school in Ilsfeld.

  • Diving fitness - verifiable in the form of a medical questionnaire or doctor's certificate - see Information on diving fitness below.
  • Minimum age 15 years
  • At least 20 dives

Diving Fitness Certificate

To participate in a diving course, it is vital that you are in good health. Even though certain health limitations do not exclude diving outright, they should be evaluated by a doctor beforehand. In order to avoid diving accidents, it is necessary that you provide a certificate of your diving fitness before the course. This can take the form of a medical questionnaire or a doctor's certificate.

You can download the medical questionnaire here on our website and fill it out independently. Filling it out is your own responsibility and must be signed by you. The certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue or until your health changes (whichever comes first). If you must answer 'Yes' to any question on the questionnaire, you may need an additional doctor's certificate. A detailed guide for filling it out is available directly on the questionnaire – please pay particular attention to the notes in small print at the end of the form!

We recommend submitting a doctor's certificate and, for your own safety, regularly undergoing a diving fitness examination. According to the Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Society, divers aged 8 to 15 years and over 40 years should have a diving medical examination annually. Divers between 16 and 39 years should be examined every three years or when there are changes in health status.

IMPORTANT!

The theory units on-site serve only as a review of the theory learned in home study. The courses are designed so that only the key aspects will be discussed again in the theory units with the diving instructor and any open questions clarified.
Please prepare well for the theory units in advance!

You can learn the theory through the mySSI homepage (https://my.divessi.com) or the mySSI app. Access will be provided once you have filled out and returned the important documents attached.
