Perfect Buoyancy - SSI Perfect Buoyancy
The diving course Perfect Buoyancy is an SSI specialty course that teaches you useful skills to optimise your buoyancy, leading to a better position in the water, a more efficient and effortless forward movement, and a reduced air consumption. Additionally, you will learn to better protect the underwater world by moving underwater without touching the reef or other marine life.
General Information
For a "good diver" wishing to move relaxed underwater, one of the most important aspects is the perfection of buoyancy control.
With proper buoyancy, your air consumption will be reduced, and the amount of weight can be minimised, which leads to significantly less effort during the dive.
Being able to control your diving depth at any time and not having to worry about accidentally damaging something underwater contributes to greater comfort during the dive.
Perfect buoyancy is also the prerequisite for nearly all other specialty courses, making this course a must for every ambitious diver.
How does the course work?
The course includes:
4 theory units as home study (followed by a final test), with a recap theory unit on-site with the diving instructor - see the IMPORTANT Information regarding the theoretical training below.
1 afternoon or evening session in the pool
Theoretical Training
Theoretical knowledge is primarily acquired through self-study before the practical training. During the on-site theory unit, the key points from the home study will be reviewed. You will learn, for example, what equipment you need to control your buoyancy, which physical principles affect your buoyancy, and how to best control it.
Practical Training
In the pool, you will be shown how to determine the right amount of weight and how to control your buoyancy with your breathing. You will also learn many exercises that are helpful for perfecting your buoyancy.
Where does everything take place?
We will meet at our dive school in Ilsfeld. There you will receive a short theoretical introduction, as well as your diving cylinder and weights.
The exercises will take place depending on the season in an indoor pool in Kornwestheim or in an outdoor pool in Heilbronn.
What do you need to bring?
- Complete diving equipment (except for the diving cylinder and weights, which we provide)
- Towel and swimwear
- Diving certification
- Proof of medical fitness to dive - see information on medical fitness to dive below
- Dive logbook
- Drinks (no glass bottles)
What is included in the course price?
- Theoretical training including access to online training
- Practical training in the pool
- Cylinders refills
- Weights
- Completion certificate
- Processing fees
What are the course prerequisites?
- Diving certificate (min. Open Water Diver)
- Proof of medical fitness to dive - see information on medical fitness to dive below
- Minimum age 14 years
Diving Medical Certificate
To participate in a diving course, it is important that you are in good health. Although certain health restrictions do not necessarily exclude you from diving, they should be evaluated by a doctor beforehand. To help prevent diving accidents, you are required to provide a certificate of your fitness to dive before the course. This can be in the form of a medical questionnaire or a doctor’s certificate.
You can download the medical questionnaire here on our website and fill it out independently. Completing it is your own responsibility and must be signed by you. The certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue or until your health status changes (whichever comes first). Should you need to answer "yes" to any question on the questionnaire, you may require an additional doctor's certificate. A detailed guide for completing it can be found directly on the questionnaire – please pay special attention to the notes in small print at the end of the form!
We recommend providing a doctor’s certificate and regularly undergoing a fitness to dive assessment for your own safety. According to the Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, divers between the ages of 8 and 15 and from 40 years old should undergo a diving medical examination annually. Divers between 16 and 39 years should be examined every three years or when there are changes in their health status.
IMPORTANT!
The on-site theory units serve only as a review of the theory learned in home study. The courses are designed so that in the theory units with the diving instructor, only the key aspects are discussed again and any questions are clarified.
Please prepare well for the theory units in advance!
You can learn the theory through the myssi homepage (https://my.divessi.com) or the myssi app. You will receive access to this once you have filled out and returned the important documents attached.
