Practical Control Device for Freeflowing Regulators
Regulators that are not fully cold water rated, meaning they are not optimally designed for use in very cold water, are particularly prone to freezing, leading to the formation of ice crystals inside the regulator, which results in a freeflowing regulator.
This simple yet highly effective Freeflow Control Device (FCD) significantly contributes to your safety while diving in cold water. In the event of freezing of the second stage, freeflow can cause a catastrophic loss of air.
When the Apeks FCD is attached to your regulator, you can isolate the freeflowing second stage with a simple sliding motion and continue the dive using the alternate air supply. Alternatively, the airflow can be manually regulated to enable a safe ascent to the surface.
